From the photo you can't get an appreciation of the detail and workmanship that has gone into this, but the flowers on the beige coloured squares are actually stitched and are a replica of the flowers on the fabric. It's made by Anne who runs Patchwork-Mouse.
The clocks change this weekend, so as the evenings get darker and cooler how about snuggling up under a beautiful handmade quilt. This one has a distinct vintage feel and lovely autumnal shades.

It's only been a week and I've been re-arranging the shop already, still more boxes of things to go out on display. I've often thought about doing a Halloween table in the shop as people seem to be celebrating it more and more these days.
Take a look at these fun spooky gloves, perfect for keeping little hands warm on trick or treat night. Or these Frankenstein lollies made by the wonderfully creative Lemon Pippin (Only £1.50). This is how the barn looks after initial setup. I still have a lot of stock still to be put on display so it will fill up over the coming weeks.
Tomorrow is our first day of Thursday opening, so drop by if you can and say hello to Anita. With just a few days to go before opening here is 10 reasons to buy handcrafted items as gifts:
-You can pick up honestly made items at honest prices. - No phony sales (i.e hiked up prices just so they can later be reduced, duping customers into thinking they are getting a bargain) - It almost guarantees that no one will give the same gift as you (unless they buy from the same maker!) - Many items are much more environmentally friendly than shop bought items. There’s no use of large polluting manufacturing machines, harsh chemicals, labour (some illegal) and wastage. - You can be proud knowing that you’re supporting small businesses in your area. - You are helping to keep the crafting and design industry alive. With this, will come more unique and beautiful items available each year.- - Avoid the hunt for a car space, long queues, fluorescent lights and the huge price tags of the shopping centres. - Have your gifts customised. Many designers are more than willing to tailor items with special personifications. Names, favourite colours, unique sizes – you won’t get that in the shops. - Every product you buy from a maker will tell a story, whether it’s about the maker, the materials used, or the making process. Stories create connections and people are more likely to appreciate your gift when they know who made it and how it was made. - The best reason to buy handmade of course, is that every single product you buy was made with care and love. And that’s what Christmas is all about. |
